Ticketing Questions & Answers
Why is the ticketing structure different this year? Why no family tickets?
Over the last few years, Cahoots has run a deficit, which of course isn’t sustainable. We’re making a few changes this year (including fundraising) to try to remedy that while also keeping Cahoots accessible. These are the ticketing changes:
Family tickets eliminated: simply put, we were losing far too much money on family tickets. We hope the adjusted pricing for kids & youth will help families somewhat, and we also encourage parents to take advantage of sliding-scale tickets for themselves if needed
Youth Ticket expanded: the price of the youth ticket has jumped a little, to bring it closer to what the festival costs per-person (because of the camp’s pricing structure, everyone over the age of 13 costs the festival about the same amount) while still being discounted for accessibility. We’ve also expanded the age range for youth tickets up to 20, in hopes that this will help some young adults, students, and families with many kids.
Child ticket split into Kid and Tot: We’ve been asked in the past why free tickets are only for 0-2s. The reason for this is that our biggest cost is site fees. PWC doesn’t charge for kids under two, which is why we can make their tickets free. However, we do realize that younger kids typically eat less, and aren’t participating in as much programming. So, we’ve created two different brackets for children’s tickets.
In the past, our kids tickets were very discounted from the actual cost to the festival, which wasn’t sustainable. Breaking it into two types allows us to get the ticket price closer to the actual cost, while trying to balance that with affordability.
Base price raised to offset discounted tickets: For the first time in recent years, we have raised the base ticket price to be *slightly* more than the cost of food & accommodations for one person. We believe that part of the value of Cahoots is our diverse community, including kids, youth, and folks from different economic backgrounds. So, a base ticket now helps to off-set our under-cost tickets(sliding scale, children & youth), just a little.
How do sliding-scale tickets work?
When you click to purchase a full-festival ticket, you will select an option from the sliding-scale drop down: full price, or sliding scale A-F. If you can't afford a full-price ticket, simply select the sliding scale price that works for you (from 0-130$). There is no special process to access a sliding scale ticket, and only the SCM National Coordinator sees what kind of ticket you purchased.
Keep in mind - sliding scale tickets ARE limited and typically sell out, so plan to get yours early!
I’m tenting. Shouldn’t my ticket be cheaper?
Our camp fees are calculated by the number of people on-site, regardless of the accommodation they’re occupying. So unfortunately we can’t offer a discount to tenters.
What does cahoots actually cost you, per-person?
Anyone 13+ costs about 200$. The vast majority of this is food and lodging. Kids cost about 140$, a little less if they have smaller appetites.
Wow! How can I help?
If you can afford to, we always welcome donations to Cahoots! If donating now isn’t in the budget, we’ll also include a donation reminder in emails we send out around Christmas, and the donation form below will be available year-round! If Cahoots is important to you and you have a little to spare, you can also set up a small monthly donation (even 5$ or 10$ adds up!) to the festival.
I can’t afford to donate, but I want to help!
That’s great! Do you have a connection with any grocery stores or similar? We’re looking for in-kind donations like coffee and fruit to help keep our grocery budget low! Or, you could ask your congregation to help sponsor Cahoots! We have template letters we can share :) If that’s not accessible to you, even just inviting folks to Cahoots is a huge help! The more people who come, the lower our per-person costs are!
